John Young was the second son of David and Eliza Young. David Young and Eliza Marks were married on 7th April 1888 in the district of Cookstown.
John Young was born on born 14th March 1890. He was one of at least eight children, all born in the Coagh area.
The 1901 census lists John as age 10, living with the family at house 9 in Mullaghwotragh, Munterevlin, County Tyrone. His father was a labourer.
Known family: David Young, Eliza Young, Robert Young (born 19th June 1888), John Young (born 14th March 1890), David Young (born 26th October 1894), William J Young (born 11th March 1898), Samuel Young (born 23rd June 1904), Walter Young (born 12th June 1906), Eileen Young (born 22nd October 1908).
The 1911 census does not list John as living with the family at house 15 in Drumad, Coagh.
Private John Young served with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in the war.
Private John Young was 28 years old when the war ended.
