02/07/2019 Michael Mallon was discharged again on 27th April 1915 under paragraph 392 (iii) - i.e. not likely to become an efficient soldier. On examination it was found that he was very obviously over age – at least 45 years old.
02/07/2019 Michael Mallon was born in Mullinahoe, County Tyrone.
02/07/2019 Prior to the war Michael Mallon was employed as a hammerman, presumably in the shipyard at Govan in Glasgow. He was living in Govan.
02/07/2019 Michael Mallon enlisted initially on 11th December 1914 in Hamilton, Scotland. He listed his next of kin as his brother, Joseph Mallon, who was living at 131 Princess Street, Govan, Glasgow.
02/07/2019 Michael Mallon stated on his enlistment papers that he was 34 years old. He was given the Service No 17480 and joined the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.
02/07/2019 He enlisted a second time on 22nd April 1915 in Hamilton, Scotland. He was living at 667 Govan Road, Govan, Glasgow. He had previously served 2 years with 6th Scottish Rifle Militia. He stated he was 34 years old. He was given the Service No 18411 and joined the Scottish Rifles.

02/07/2019 It seems then that he finally managed to enlist and served as Gunner Michael Mallon with the Royal Field / Garrison Artillery.
02/07/2019 A newspaper report from July 1916 records that a Private Michael Mallon of Ballinderry Bridge had been wounded, mostly likely at the Battle of the Somme.
