The History of Coagh booklet lists Rifleman David Gibson as having served with the 1st Royal Irish Rifles in the war. It is believed David Gibson was the son of John and Sarah Gibson. They were a farming family lived at Mullaghtironey, Coagh.

David was not the brother of either Matthew Gibson or Thomas Gibson.
The best fit in the census results is detailed below. It should be noted that there was another David Gibson, born in 1898, from the Moneymore area. However, because he is not listed as having served on the Moneymore War Memorial plaques, he has been excluded.
David Gibson was the son of John and Sarah Gibson. John Gibson and Sarah Wilson were married on 9th February 1893 in the district of Cookstown.
David Gibson was born on 12th February 1896. He was one of at eight children, all born in the Coagh area.
The 1901 census lists David as age 5, living with the family at house 10 in Mullaghtironey, Coagh. John Gibson was a farmer.

The 1911 census lists David as age 15 living with the family at house 5 in Mullaghtironey, Coagh. David had left school and was working on the family farm.
Rifleman David Gibson served with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Irish Rifles in the war.
If the information is correct, Rifleman Gibson would have been 22 years old when the war ended.
