The History of Coagh booklet lists Stoker George Jardine as having served with the Royal Navy on board H.M.S. Tiger in the war. He joined the Royal Navy in 1893. Throughout his entire career in the Navy, he was known as George Jordan. Stoker George Jordan served on board many ships during his long career in the Navy. Stoker George Jordan served on board HMS Tiger during the war. When George returned home after the war, he worked as a cobbler.

George Jardine was born on 12th October 1872, either in Belfast or Coagh.
George Jardine joined the Royal Navy in 1893. Throughout his entire career in the Navy, he was known as George Jordan.
George Jardine and Mary Doherty were married on 28th December 1898 in the district of Cookstown. They went on to have at least five children.
Known family: George Jardine, Mary Jardine, Samuel Jardine (born 16th July 1906), Rose Isabel Jardine (born 31st August 1907), George Doherty Jardine (born 16th August 1908), Albert Moore Jardine (born 24th February 1910), John Jardine (born 21st September 1912).
The 1901 census does not list George as living his wife at house 7 in Rooskey Lower, Springhill, County Londonderry.
The 1911 census not list George as living with his young family at house 2 in Rusky Upper, Springhill.
Stoker George Jordan served on board many ships during his long career in the Navy.
Stoker George Jordan served on board HMS Tiger during the war. He was about 44 when the war started.
HMS Tiger
He was present at the Battle of Dogger Bank in January 1915 when HMS Tiger was hit. He was not injured.
He was also present at the Battle of Jutland a few months later where HMS Tiger was hit a total of 18 times during the battle, mostly by shells fired by Moltke, suffering 24 men killed and 46 wounded. Again, Stoker George Jordan was not injured.
When George returned home after the war, he worked as a cobbler.
