John Robert Lamont was the youngest son of Robert and Mary Lamont. He was born on 4th May 1889 in the Moneymore area. He was the youngest of seven children. John’s mother and father died when he was young. He and his siblings lived in Ballygonney, near Coagh. John Lamont emigrated to the United States of America. John Lamont’s draft registration card records that he was employed as a motor man on the trams, employed by Chicago Surface Lines. He was living in Chicano, Illinois when he joined the US Army.

The History of Coagh booklet lists Private John Lamont as having served with the United States Expeditionary Force in the war.
John Robert Lamont was the youngest son of Robert and Mary Lamont. Robert Lamont and Mary Beattie were married in the district of Cookstown on 20th November 1873.
John Lamont was born on 4th May 1889 in the Moneymore area. He was the youngest of seven children.
John’s mother died three weeks later on 28th May 1889, aged just 33.
Known family: Robert Lamont, Mary Lamont, William James Lamont (born 24th November 1874), Samuel Lamont (born 4th May 1876), Annie Lamont (born 5th August 1878), Lillie Lamont (born 23rd August 1880), Sarah Lamont (13th July 1882), Sarah Agnes Lamont (born 18th January 1885), John Robert Lamont (born 4th May 1889).
It is believed John’s father died on 20th March 1899 in the Moneymore area.
The 1901 census lists John as age 11 living with his siblings at house 8 in Ballygonney, Springhill, County Londonderry. He was still at school.
John Lamont emigrated to the United States of America.
John Lamont’s draft registration card confirms he was born on 4th May 1889 in Ulster. He was employed as a motor man on the trams, employed by Chicago Surface Lines.
He was living in Chicano, Illinois when he joined the US Army.
