William Sprat was listed on Panel Two of the World War One memorial in Coagh Orange Hall to those who served. There is a James Spratt listed also. It is not known if they are related.

William Spratt was born about 1880 in Drumullan, near Coagh.

William Spratt and Agnes Nichol were married in Coagh on 12th May 1904. They had one child, Thomas, who was born in Ballydawley.

Prior to enlisting, William was employed as a labourer.

William Spratt enlisted in the Special Reserve of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers on 23rd June 1908 at Finner Camp in County Donegal.

On his enlistment papers he stated he was with the 4th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers previously, but was discharged by purchase.

Private William Spratt served for eighteen months with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers (No. 2587) until his service ended and he was discharged on 11th January 1910.

On his discharge papers, it notes he had a wife and son and was to live at Knocking Row, Ardtrea, Stewartstown.

It seems that William Spratt enlisted again during World War One.

There was also a unrelated Private James Spratt from Cookstown who served with the Highland Light Infantry. He was Scottish and his parents lived in Chapel Street. He died in the war.
