From the Mid Ulster Mail dated 21st September 1918:
MCALLISTER – In loving memory of our dear son, Private Jack McAllister, who was killed in action on 9th September 1917.
‘He sleeps away in a foreign land,
In a hollowed grave unknown,
But his name is written in letters of gold,
On the hearts he left at home.
As dawn swept over the trenches,
He fall amidst shot and shell;
Our only grief, we were not there,
To take the last farewell.
For King and country firm he stood,
Unknown to cowards fears;
On the plains of France he fought and died,
With the Ulster Volunteers.’
Ever remembered by his sorrowing father, mother and sister, Salterstown.
