22/02/2019 It seems Private Ashcroft served overseas between 1916 and 1918.
22/02/2019 Albert Ashcroft was the son of William and Sarah Ashcroft. William Ashcroft and Sarah Tosh / Toss / McIntosh were married on 28th May 1874 in the district of Cookstown.
22/02/2019 Albert shcroft was born at Urbal, Coagh, County Tyrone about 1891. He was one fourteen children, eleven surviving.

22/02/2019 The 1901 census lists Albert as age 10, living with the family at house 5 in Great Georges Street, Coagh. His father was a horse trainer. Albert was still at school.
22/02/2019 The 1911 census lists Albert as age 20, living with the family at house 1 in Ballygoney Beg, Springhill, County Londonderry. They were a farming family and Albert is described as a farmer’s son.
22/02/2019 The History of Coagh booklet lists Albert Ashcroft and his brother Hugh Ashcroft as having served.

22/02/2019 Albert’s brother, Sergeant Hugh Ashcroft, also served with the North Irish Horse during the war. He too survived.

22/02/2019 Among the soldiers on leave this week are Private Matt Robinson, Corporal W McCollum and Sergeant J Mitchell, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, and S.S. Albert Ashcroft, North Irish Horse.
22/02/2019 Private Albert Ashcroft would have been about 27 years old when the war finished.
22/02/2019 Private Albert Ashcroft served with the North Irish Horse (Service No 1481) and with the Corps of Hussars (Service No 71399).
