16/04/2019 Privates James Phelan and William McCollum are home on leave. Private James Phelan has been some time in Derry, while Private McCollum has just returned from the trenches. In the big attack of 1st July, he showed conspicuous gallantry, for which he has since been awarded a stripe. Before enlisting, he was employed with Mr Hugh Dickson, Lower Coagh.

16/04/2019 The History of Coagh booklet lists Private William McCollum as having served with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in the war. Private William McCollum received the Military Medal.
16/04/2019 Among the soldiers on leave this week are Private Matt Robinson, Corporal W McCollum and Sergeant J Mitchell, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, and S.S. Albert Ashcroft, North Irish Horse.
16/04/2019 There was also a Private William McCollum who served with the Canadians. He came from Clogher and died in the war.

16/04/2019 Private William McCollum received the Military Medal (M.M.)
16/04/2019 The London Gazette, dated 13th June 1919 (page 7671), announced that his Majesty the King has been graciously pleased to award the Military Medal for bravery in the field to the undermentioned non-commissioned officers and men: 11376 Pte. McCallum, W, 1st Battalion (Lower Coagh, Co Tyrone), Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.
